Adopt-A-Family 2016

The Town Club’s Annual Adopt-A-Family program is our way of spreading holiday joy to needy children and families

Movie of 2016 Adopt-A-Family Gift Delivery at St. Clare’s Hospital

For over 20 years, Town Club members and Mountain Lakes’ residents have volunteered their time and efforts to provide a present-filled holiday to needy families in Dover through a partnership with Saint Clare’s Hospital Outreach program.

Up to 40 families each year participate in the program. Town Club members volunteer to ‘Adopt-A-Family’, by shopping for items from a family’s wish list. Gifts can be as basic as a big box of diapers, as utilitarian as a gift card to a grocery or ‘big box’ store, or as special as a longed-for toy for a youngster.

The Adopt-A-Family program couldn’t run without the help of our generous volunteers:

  • Volunteers may ‘adopt’ an individual or an entire family. As the holidays approach, volunteers will be assigned a person or family to buy for, along with a wish list of items, sizing info, etc, for that person[s].
  • Volunteers drop off their gifts here in Mountain Lakes the week of December 5th. A Cookie Gifting and Exchange program is planned for the morning of December 8th and designed to coincide with gift drop off.
  • Volunteers transport the (many!!) gifts to Dover Hospital, and hosts a casual gathering there, during which the presents are distributed. Spanish speakers are especially needed.
  • If you’d like to help, but hate to shop, gift cards and monetary donations are always welcome!

A big thank you to our generous volunteers for making the 2016 Adopt-A-Family program a huge success.

Let’s aim for variety, easily transported, tasty cookies.

Chicken Pot Pie Workshop

For the over 5 years, the Town Club has hosted a Chicken Pot Pie Workshop for the Home and School Association’s Bake Sale. The workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 5th from 9-11am at Gretchen Hilton’s home, 416 Morris Avenue.

We need volunteers to cook chicken breasts and make roux (recipe provided) in advance of the workshop, assemblers to put it all together and drivers to deliver the chicken pot pies.

This is a great opportunity to socialize with old friends and meet new neighbors. All help is welcome!
