Holiday Cookie Platter Assembly

‘Tis the Season for baking!

Town Club of Mountain Lakes volunteers baked holiday cookies and created platters for Adopt-A-Family recipients as well as the organizations that make Mountain Lakes such a wonderful community. Platters were deliver to all three schools as well as the Board of Education, Borough Hall, Department of Public Works, Fire Department, Library, Police Department, and Post Office. Happy Holidays!

Adopt-A-Family 2016

The Town Club’s Annual Adopt-A-Family program is our way of spreading holiday joy to needy children and families

Movie of 2016 Adopt-A-Family Gift Delivery at St. Clare’s Hospital

For over 20 years, Town Club members and Mountain Lakes’ residents have volunteered their time and efforts to provide a present-filled holiday to needy families in Dover through a partnership with Saint Clare’s Hospital Outreach program.

Up to 40 families each year participate in the program. Town Club members volunteer to ‘Adopt-A-Family’, by shopping for items from a family’s wish list. Gifts can be as basic as a big box of diapers, as utilitarian as a gift card to a grocery or ‘big box’ store, or as special as a longed-for toy for a youngster.

The Adopt-A-Family program couldn’t run without the help of our generous volunteers:

  • Volunteers may ‘adopt’ an individual or an entire family. As the holidays approach, volunteers will be assigned a person or family to buy for, along with a wish list of items, sizing info, etc, for that person[s].
  • Volunteers drop off their gifts here in Mountain Lakes the week of December 5th. A Cookie Gifting and Exchange program is planned for the morning of December 8th and designed to coincide with gift drop off.
  • Volunteers transport the (many!!) gifts to Dover Hospital, and hosts a casual gathering there, during which the presents are distributed. Spanish speakers are especially needed.
  • If you’d like to help, but hate to shop, gift cards and monetary donations are always welcome!

A big thank you to our generous volunteers for making the 2016 Adopt-A-Family program a huge success.

December Program: Adopt-A-Family Cookie Exchange

O’Come share in the sweetness of the season! It’s a cookie swap!

There will be coffee and tea, cookie decorating and sampling.  Gift boxes of cookies will be made up for the 40 families on our Adopt a Family list.  Please bring 4 dozen of your favorite homemade cookies and leave with at least 2 dozen cookies of different varieties and knowing you’ve made the day of a family who might not be able to bake their own holiday treats.

Let’s aim for variety, easily transported, tasty cookies.

Please email your cookie recipe to and we will share the recipes with you – you might just find a new family favorite after all!

Volunteer to Adopt-a-Family This Holiday Season

Each year The Town Club ‘adopts’ 50 families from St Clare’s Prenatal Clinic in Dover.

Mountain Lakes families volunteer to provide presents for needy Dover families who are clients of the prenatal clinic. Volunteers receive a ‘wish list’ to shop from, and gifts are gathered and delivered to St. Clare’s in mid-December.

If you can adopt a family, please contact Ginny Cassidy to specify the number of people and ages that you would like to provide for by October 20th. Gifts are delivered in mid-December.
